Burkholder & Company has been providing quality services since our founding in 1976. It is our mission to provide quality tax and accounting services at a fair price. We believe the best way to achieve this goal is to identify the specific needs of our clients and address those needs directly, without providing services that are not needed or expected.
Our Staff
Below is a brief introduction to members of our staff.
 Douglas L. Burkholder, CPA – Is the President of Burkholder & Company and has been with the firm full-time since 1996. He is a graduate of the George Washington University with a B.A. in Accountancy and a specialty in Management Information Systems. His experience includes controllership duties for several small companies, audit work for non-profit organizations, individual, corporate and estate taxation, accounting systems implementation and analysis, and business and personal financial consulting. He is a member of the American Institute and Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a QuickBooks Advanced Professional Advisor. He currently serves as an officer and director on several local non-profit organizations’ board of directors |
 David A. Burkholder – Is the founder of Burkholder & Company. He has been engaged in public accounting since 1968; received a CPA certificate in January, 1972, and started his own CPA firm in January, 1976. Has been engaged in numerous audits of all types since that time; including governmental units and agencies, non-profit organizations, collective bargaining units, banks and small and medium-sized businesses. Has received at least 40 hours of continuing professional education credits each year since starting the practice, and is currently receiving credits for a number of courses in which he is enrolled. He continues to provide expert tax compliance and planning services, as well as private company valuation services. |
 Susan L. Sanders - Began in 2000 as the Secretary/Receptionist. She has a Certificate in Business Data Processing and brings to the firm her excellent people, organization and computer skills. |
 Melissa D. Burkholder – Is the firm administrator and also provides monthly bookkeeping services to clients. With a background in graphic design and photography, she doubles as the firm’s in-house design expert. |
 April L Schultheis – Started with the firm in 2011 and currently serves as a Staff Accountant. She is a graduate of Hood College with a B.A. in Management along with dual concentrations in Finance and Accounting. In addition, she has a M.B.A along with a Finance concentration from Mount St. Mary’s University. Her experience includes individual and corporate tax preparation, and QuickBooks accounting. |
 Kristen S. McCallum - Started with the firm in 1998 and currently serves as a Senior Staff Accountant. Is a graduate of Juniata college with a B.S. in Accounting. Experience includes individual, corporate and payroll tax preparation, monthly write-up accounting, and QuickBooks accounting. She is a member of the Maryland Society of Accountants. |
